The Show I’d See
the Barest of things...
Remember that whole hullaballoo about the quality of the Upstate music scene? To be honest, I had mostly forgotten about it as the complaints were not worth the energy it would take to remember them. It did pop into my head, however, just a moment ago when I visited the Fete Mobile Music calendar hosted by our friends at iONGreenville.net.
I knew there were a lot of good shows going down this weekend but I was a bit shocked to see that there are more than 40 shows listed on this calendar in the next 48 hours. The list is littered with local bands, regional talent, and nationally touring acts. They span a multitude of genres from rock to bluegrass and even feature some local cover bands for the diehard “play something we know” crowd. Venues range from hole-in-the-wall dives to full-blown concert halls perfect for a show.
Anyone still complaining about the quality of the Upstate music scene would probably complain about winning the lottery.
I would like to see a ton of these shows this weekend, but if I had to pick just one (and this weekend I am actually limited to just one) I have to go with the Banditos. The six-piece rock and roll is exactly the type of music I want to listen to and the Upstate is lucky to have them stopping by for not just one but two shows on Saturday. The headlining gig will go down at the new Radio Room and will be supported by Brother Oliver and Stuyedeyed and is a mere $10 for a night of quality, rock and roll.
If you are too old or home with kids (or in my case, both) to make it to an evening show, the fine folks at Horizon Records will host the Banditos for an in-store afternoon show to get things warmed up. If you give me to chances two see a good band, I’m going to make it to at least one of them, darn it.
What about you? Which of the 40 plus shows this weekend has your motor running? Share your thoughts and let’s get out and support some live music together.
P.S. The iONGreenville.net app is free and you too can know who is playing where on your phone.
