Eliza Limehouse: Entrepreneur Extraordinaire
By Emily Dreyer
When Jay asked me to write this article, a certain person immediately came to mind. I knew I had to sit down and interview student and business woman extraordinaire, Eliza Limehouse.
Eliza is a junior at Clemson, majoring in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management. Eliza is one of those people that always has something amazing to tell you and you are guaranteed a fun time whenever you’re around her. She has boundless energy and is always on the go. A Charleston native, Eliza is passionate about two things: taking care of her horses and selling her products.
When Eliza was 17, she started making bracelets and wearing them around downtown Charleston. It didn’t take long before she caught the eye of a storeowner who offered to sell some of her jewelry, and thus Snafflebit Bracelet Company was born. As the business grew, Eliza hired a partner, Allston Pate and Snafflebit expanded. The bracelets are now sold in 5 different states and when Eliza brings her new batches of bracelets to Clemson - you’d better find her early because they sell out fast.
Even though Snafflebit was doing well, last year Eliza and her mom, Susan, came up with another idea to broaden their market. She took some of the money from Snafflebit and started her next project: Plantation Candle Company. By working closely with a photographer and the candle maker, the product turned out exactly the way she envisioned - rustic and natural. The candles followed the bracelets into stores and they gained immediate notice.
These business ventures enabled Eliza to know at an early age all the in-and-outs of running her own business. Her self-motivated work ethic at such a young age should not go unnoticed and is remarkably inspiring.
When she’s not running a million business errands, or attending class, she’s spending almost all of her free time with her horses. Her goal is to continue to build her businesses, but her main focus is her horses. She says, “My horses make me the happiest and I wouldn’t be doing what I do today if it weren’t for them.” Eliza is basically the person we all wish we could be - the coolest girl on the block, crazy motivated and passionate about everything she does.
