the Barest of things...
In the wake of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, countless celebrities and athletes used their fame and fortune to raise money and do productive things to aid those in need. As they are wont to do, however, others saw this as the perfect opportunity to show their proverbial asses. The first asses that come to mind in this conversation are Kirk “Why Is Anybody Still Reporting On Him” Cameron and Jennifer “the Hunger Games Were Lame” Lawrence.
For his part, Cameron posted a video to his Facebook page that has been inexplicably viewed almost a quarter million times. In the video he explains that these hurricanes were sent by God Himself and that they are intended to do some Old Testament level destruction to remind man of His immense power and cause us to repent for our sins. Sorry, Kirk, your God sounds like kind of a schoolyard bully if you ask me.
On the other side of the spectrum, Lawrence was blathering on in an interview when she insisted that we are all ignoring climate change, the only voice we have is our vote, but, as a result of how we voted, we are now feeling “Mother Nature’s rage, or wrath.” So Mother Nature is an actual being capable of anger about our feelings and election cycles? That sounds as dumb as the premise to the Hunger Games, if you ask me.
The point here is this: If you go far enough to the left or right on the political spectrum, you will always end up in the same place - mind numbingly and embarrassingly stupid. Left and Right thinking makes a circle if you follow them far enough, apparently.
Regardless of what your religious or political beliefs may be, natural weather patterns cause hurricanes. Neither vindictive gods nor a fairy tale personification of the earth’s emotional stability is behind the phenomenon that is weather. Most rational people understand this but many actors and actresses falsely equate their own fame with intelligent thought - such is the nature of the overinflated ego.
If I ever need advice on how to read, remember, and recite the words somebody more talented wrote for me, I may consider the abilities of Jennifer Lawrence and Kirk Cameron. Until then, however, I will see them both as what they are… a couple of schmucks.
For the rest of you rationally thinking, normal Americans, thank you for your care and support of our friends and family in Texas and Florida. A lot of good citizens have stepped up and donated time, money, and energy to help these hurricane ravaged areas without turning it all into some self serving cause or issue. This is what America is all about. Fete it be.
SIDE NOTE FROM THE PUBLISHER: There is a fundraiser going on this Wednesday the 20th called Greenville Gives - Hurricane Relief Benefit Concert that is set up to help support our brothers and sisters in Florida and Texas.
